New Venue For Philly Beer Week's Signature Event

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philly Beer Week organizers have announced a change in venue for their big kick-off event coming up in less than two months.

For the past few years 23rd St. Armory has been home for that three-hour liquid smorgasbord known as Opening Tap. But no more. Opening Tap will now be held at The Filmore in Fishtown.

"There's no climate control. Our event is in June and last year it was 92 degrees," said Beer Executive Director, Kristine Kennedy, explaining the Armory's one major flaw. "It gets pretty stuffy in there."

As for the Filmore, Kennedy says the layout is perfect.

"The whole floor in front of the stage is totally open which is very attractive to us. It's just a blank canvas."

And she says there's loads of room... 51,000 square feet, 2,500 capacity, a big stage and a state-of-the-art sound and lighting system.

Opening Tap is set for June 3rd from 7 to 10 p.m.
