New Tool Protects Montco Courthouse, Deputies From Active Shooter

NORRISTOWN, Pa. (CBS) - The Montgomery County Sheriff's office has a new tool to protect against an active shooter or other dangerous individual.

The department demonstrated the Corner Shot Weapons System with an active shooter drill in the narrow hallways by the Sheriff's office in the courthouse.

"Very difficult for officers to enter a building like this and to safely navigate the corridors trying to locate an active shooter," says Sheriff Russell Bono.

Bono says the end of the Corner Shot houses a hand gun and swivels right or left, or up or down, allowing the user to engage a gunman around corners while staying behind cover:

"It has a live-feed video screen that the operator of the weapon is viewing to see around the corner, without exposing his body."

Bono says Corner Shot is on-loan to the Sheriff's department at no cost to taxpayers.
