New Program Aimed At Helping Low Income Students Who Excel In Science And Math

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A new program at Ursinus College will offer financial help to low-income students who excel in science and math.
The nearly six hundred thousand dollar grant is called "Supporting Inclusive Excellence in Biology, Biochemistry, and Neuroscience."
It comes from the National Science Foundation and will support high achieving, low-income students.
"These are students who have what it takes to succeed and to go on to careers in science and they may not be able to succeed due to matters that they have no control over." said Associate Dean Rebecca Kohn.
Kohn says they're not offering just financial support but also academic support. For example, one program that works with students on study skills and note taking.
"To help them succeed in ways that depending on what kind of high school they came they may have had more of less of this skill building."
