New Jersey Man Pleads Guilty To Killing Mom With Ax, Taking Her Car

LAKEWOOD, N.J. (AP) — A New Jersey man has pleaded guilty to killing his mother by striking her with an ax and then taking her car.

Ocean County Prosecutor Joseph Coronato said Tuesday that 43-year-old Lakewood resident Brian Cassidy pleaded guilty Monday to killing 61-year-old Gail Conway. She was found dead in her bed in June 2013.

A medical examiner ruled the cause of death as head trauma, but no motive was ever given.

Officers went to check on Conway after co-workers reported she had not arrived at work. Her car was missing from her driveway when officers arrived, but police saw Cassidy driving it later that day and arrested him.

Cassidy has been in jail since his mother died. His sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 6.
