New Jersey Firefighter Accused Of False Alarms

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (AP) — Police say a volunteer firefighter in central New Jersey phoned in numerous false alarms possibly because he wanted more experience responding to emergencies.

Piscataway police have charged 18-year-old Justin tran of South Plainfield with 14 counts of causing public alarm.

Tran was a member of Arbor Hose Company #1.

Authorities say Tran made numerous phone calls reporting suspicious odors and smoke conditions, which proved unfounded. He also is accused of reporting a small fire in a park which was extinguished by a police officer before the fire company arrived.

It is not known if Tran has a lawyer who can comment on the charges.
