New Jersey Couple Indicted In Drowning Death Of 2-Year-Old Daughter

TOMS RIVER, N.J. (AP) — The parents of a 2-year-old girl who drowned in a neighbor's pool last summer have been indicted on child endangerment charges.

Ocean County prosecutors say 41-year-old Robert Trella and 31-year-old Brigitte McCarthy also face drug possession charges in the 11-count indictment handed up by a county grand jury. Trella also faces a charge of tampering with evidence.

Their daughter was found in the pool last August. Authorities say drugs were found in the couple's home during the subsequent investigation.

The Berkeley Township residents both remained jailed on $150,000 each. They are being represented by the county public defender's office, which does not comment on its clients' cases.

Both Trella and McCarthy could face up to 25 years in prison if convicted on all counts.
