New Jersey Closes I-295 Lanes For Emergency Bridge Repairs

HAMILTON, N.J. (AP) — New Jersey Department of Transportation officials say they are immediately closing two lanes on Interstate 295 southbound in Hamilton for emergency bridge repairs.

Officials said Thursday in a statement crews will repair a hole with exposed rebar and loose concrete in the center lane of the bridge over Hamilton Avenue. The left lane will also be closed, and the work will occur at mile marker 64.

The work is not expected to affect northbound traffic.

Heavy traffic delays on the interstate south of Route 1 are expected during the evening commute.

Department of Transportation spokesman Steve Schapiro says work will go through rush hour and is expected to be finished Thursday evening.
