New Jersey Animal Alliance Offers Black Cat Special On Black Friday

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Here's a Black Friday sale you probably never heard before. A sale on the adoption of cats and kittens.

These aren't just any cats and kittens, they must have black fur, even if in one little spot. The Animal Alliance off Route 179 in Lambertville, New Jersey is having the sale to help find homes for some 35 felines.

"It's different from a conventional animal shelter in that the cats live in free roaming rooms," says executive director Ann Trinkle, "and they have a lot of toys and perches, and things to jump up on and big windows."

The cost of adopting an adult cat is usually $75, but today it's $25.

"The super special of the day is our FIV positive cats," Trinkle says, "who we call the Fivers, and they're $5."

She says FIV is like Feline HIV, and can cause some secondary illnesses. But Trinkle adds many FIV positive cats can live a long life with other cats.
