New I-95 Weight Restrictions During The DNC

by Kim Glovas

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- PennDOT is placing some restrictions on I-95 traffic during the Democratic National Convention.

PennDOT's Gene Blaum says the restriction is part of a security plan for the week of the DNC.

95 between Exit 13, down by International Airport, and Exit 22, the Vine Street Expressway, will be off limits for vehicles weighing over 5-tons.

"Delivery trucks, utility vehicles, obviously tractor trailers, small dump trucks, flatbed trucks, those types of vehicles will be prohibited from traveling on 95," says Gene Blaum of PennDOT.

But that's not all.

"Motor homes and recreational trailers that are in excess of 5-tons will also need to detour around I-95," said Blaum.

Blaum says 109 electronic message signs will be used to get the word out, beginning more than a week before the convention.

He says signs will also be posted guiding those vehicles to detours around 95.

The restriction will be effective from Saturday July 23rd at noon to Friday July 29th at about the same time.
