New Funding For Groups That Help With Housing In PA

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Eight area non-profit groups that provide housing assistance are receiving portions of a 100-thousand dollar grant through a program sponsored by Citizens Bank.

The Citizens Helping Citizens Provide Shelter initiative provides funding for groups that offer housing support, things like weatherization, counseling for those in danger of losing their homes and services for the homeless.

Dan Fitzpatrick, president of Citizens Bank for Pennsylvania, said the bank wants to make sure it's connecting the dots from what they do to help employers create jobs to providing good education and job training for citizens.

"It has to start with a safe home, a quality roof over their head, and safe neighborhoods, and that's what these organizations are doing," he said.

The eight grant recipients include Covenant House Pennsylvania, which works with homeless and trafficked young people, and the Housing Equality Center of Pennsylvania.
