New Form Of Photo ID May Be Coming To Philadelphia Soon

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- City Council will consider issuing municipal ID cards so that Philadelphians without drivers licenses can have easy access to services that require a picture ID.
It would have some added benefits.
Councilwoman Maria Quinones Sanchez introduced the bill that would establish the card, noting picture ID's are needed for a vast array of activities, opening a bank account, renting an apartment, checking into the emergency room.
But she also hopes to copy New York's model, where city-issued ID's also serve as discount and reward cards.
"We're talking about leverage our partners, our city services, our libraries, our museums, our entertainment venues."
The bill was cosponsored by council members Helen Gym and Curtis Jones, and Sanchez says it has the full support of Mayor Jim Kenney.
