New Energy Technology Company Sets Up Campus In Camden

CAMDEN, NJ. (CBS) -- A new company, called Holtec International, is bringing its headquarters to Camden, New Jersey, where it's expected to create several thousand jobs.

"Holtec is a manufacturing company that has designed a modular, nuclear energy unit that will be manufactured and put together on the Camden Waterfront," said Camden County Freeholder Director Louis Cappelli Jr.

Cappelli says Holtec will bring an economic boost to Camden.

"There will be over 3,000 people employed at Holtec over the next several years," he said. "Training programs are well underway."

He believes the economic influx will have a huge positive impact on the area.

"I do not believe you will recognize the Camden Waterfront in five years," Cappelli said.

And Cappelli wants to reassure the public that the site is completely safe.

"There will be no nuclear material on this site," he said. "The apparatus itself will just be assembled on site."

The company held its "topping off" ceremony on Friday.
