New Electric Toothbrush Sees What You Don't

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- It's the next best thing to having a dental hygienist standing next to you at the bathroom mirror -- without the change in relationship status that would entail. It's a connected toothbrush.

The Oral-B Genius aims to make you one when it comes to your teeth.

"There are three main areas when you think about dental professionals' recommendations."

The two-minute rule; the right pressure, and, says Kris Parlett with Procter & Gamble...

"Even coverage, or cleaning the whole mouth."

That's where your smartphone comes into play. The Genius 9000 includes a suction-cup that secures your device to a mirror. The front-facing camera teams with sensors in the rechargeable brush and coaches your cleaning using an app.

"You can make it look like 3-D teeth, and it would guide you on where you should brush and for how long. It actually detects where you are in your mouth, and how long you're spending in that area."

It tracks the quality of your brushing over time -- something you could proudly (or sheepishly) give to the dentist, or kids could show to mom and dad.

Oral-B hasn't set the price of the Genius 9000, which is out later this year.
