New Brewerytown Pizza Place Possible Sign Of Things To Come In Area

By Mike Dougherty

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Construction has begun on a new pizza place at 29th and Girard that is taking over the space vacated by an old hat shop.

This portion of Brewerytown has seen better days, but now it's in a state of transition.

"We had everything here," says State rep Michelle Brownlee. "We had banks, candy shops, bakeries...I think this is the beginning of bringing that back to Girard Avenue."

Brownlee has been here her whole life and she thinks this is a sign of great things to come.

The building has five apartments and three other businesses that have been fixtures on the corner for decades.

Aaron Smith with MM Partners helped get this project off the ground.

"Our goal is to make this something where it doesn't matter who you are or where you come from," he tells KYW Newsradio. "You come to this corridor, you're going to enjoy shopping or living."

The owners of Pizza Brain in Fishtown are opening another store here once construction is complete.
