New App Helps Find Restaurants Offering Gluten-Free Food

By John Ostapkovich

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- If you need to hunt for gluten-free offerings in area restaurants, there's an app for that.

Area lawyer Michael Savett has a son with Celiac disease, a metabolic intolerance for the wheat gluten found in many breads and pastas, so Savett began collecting and sharing menus from gluten-free-friendly establishments on his blog, glutenfreephilly.com, but times change. People want mobile.

"I developed an app for the iPhone and Android devices," Savett says, "that allows people to search more than 1,500 restaurants, bakeries, markets and attractions, like the Wells Fargo Center and Lincoln Financial Field to pull up options in the area where they can find gluten-free foods."

Savett says the number of restaurants on the list has grown exponentially and the app often can lead users right to the eatery's own website to check the current menu.
