Nearly-frozen, Emaciated Dog Rescued From Home In Chester County
WEST CHESTER, Pa. (CBS) – The Chester County SPCA says it rescued a nearly frozen dog over the weekend.
Officials say they found one dog outside on the Valley Township property and another that appeared to be dead. The third dog, an eight-week-old puppy, was living inside the home.
The male and female Chihuahua mixes were reportedly living inside a "urine-soaked" wire cage with no food. Their water was frozen and the dogs were exposed to 20 degree temperatures.
When the dog arrived at the West Chester Animal Emergency Center, his temperature was so low it didn't register on thermometers. But after receiving heat support, intravenous fluids and glucose, he began to recover.
"Officer Beam was surprised that this poor dog still had a pulse," said Frank Galbraith, Animal Protective Services Manager of the Chester County SPCA, in a release. "He appeared to be frozen to death."
CCSPCA staff named the male Chihuahua, who was emaciated, Christopher Robin. They say he's about three-years-old.

The dog's owner will likely face animal cruelty charges.
