NCAA - And Its Athletes - Facing Changes

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The higher education press has been filled recently with stories of colleges and universities - losing students, presidents' high salaries, Penn State, sexual abuse and lately the NCAA.

Some leaders are considering an idea that was always taboo: allowing players to use their names and pictures commercially. It's foreseen that some apparel retailers and car dealers would be interested in signing deals and according to an article in the Chronicle of Higher Education, there is a multitude of antitrust and concussion lawsuits against the NCAA and its member colleges.

Next month a federal judge will rule on whether football or men's basketball players have the right to share in the billions of licensing dollars that the NCAA and its colleges generate. But don't overlook what 4-year scholarships do for athletes, and since not all athletes are good students, the question is: should there be a cutoff for grades?
