Naval Academy Midshipman Killed In Amtrak Train Derailment

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A midshipman was one of those killed in the Amtrak train derailment in Philadelphia, the Naval Academy announced Wednesday.

According to the United States Naval Academy, the midshipman, identified as 20-year-old Justin Zemser, was on leave and was en-route to his home when the train derailed in the city's Port Richmond at about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday.

A spokesperson for the Naval Academy said the Brigade of Midshipman, staff and faculty were notified of the midshipman's death Wednesday morning.

A statement from the Naval Academy read in part:

"The Naval Academy is supporting the midshipman's family, friends, and loved ones during this time of grief. Grief counseling services and support are available to midshipmen, faculty and staff through chains of command, our chaplains, and the Midshipmen Development Center."
