Comcast Outage Hitting Tri-State-Residents, Interrupting Xfinity Service Nationwide
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Many people in the Philadelphia region have experienced major problems with their phone and internet service because of a massive Comcast Xfinity outage. While we still don't know what brought on the mass outage through the region, we do know that customers nationwide are experiencing the same issues.
For many, this couldn't come at a worse time with so many people still working from home during the pandemic and relying on Comcast services.
CBS3 viewers from various parts of Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware used social media to confirm their own outages Tuesday morning. The spike in outages began around 8 a.m. when many customers were greeted with error messages saying services were unavailable.
is it just a greater philadelphia comcast outage or is it further?

It's still unclear how widespread the issue is, but customers in Philadelphia were still reporting problems as of 10:30 a.m. Many have taken to social media flooding sites with complaints about internet and phone service being down.

Looks like Comcast is having internet connectivity issues this morning with multiple areas in Philly. I'm amazed how stable Verizon Fios has been compared to Comcast in the Philly area tbh. #outage #Philadelphia

Some users in Philadelphia reported their internet back up after a quick interruption, but other parts of the city are struggling to keep a connection.
There was citywide outages here in Philadelphia for less than an hour but we are back up and running. Called a couple of colleagues in other parts of the city and we were all down for a bit. #ComcastOutage #WorkAtHomeIssues

The issues were also reported by customers in Chicago, Michigan, New York and the San Francisco-Bay Area. Comcast has not disclosed the reason for the outages.
Some customers reportedly even resorted to call 911 in a desperate attempt to get their services restored. Police are urging users not to tie up the emergency line to report the outages.
A Comcast spokesperson issued the following statement to CBS3:
"Earlier, some customers experienced intermittent service disruptions as a result of a network issue. We have addressed the issue and service is now restoring for impacted customers, as we continue to investigate the root cause. We apologize to those who were affected."
Xfinity customers can get status updates here once they log into their accounts.
CBS3's Natasha Brown will have the latest this afternoon on CBS3 at 4.
