NASCAR Ready To Pull Up In South Jersey

MILLVILLE, N.J. (CBS) -- Racing fans in our area have something to get excited about. NASCAR is coming to South Jersey.

Millville's New Jersey Motorsports Park announced that they will be hosting the NASCAR K&N Pro Series.

The biggest brand is racing arrives in Millville this weekend. Pit crews are gearing up for Saturday's JustDrive.com 125. "Several years now, it's been in the works," said Ashley Freas. "It's a really big deal and we couldn't be happier. You know, it's not only a big deal for NJMP, but for the community as a whole."

Situated on 500 acres next to the Millville airport, Motorsports Park has three world-class raceways. Christening the course for NASCAR are the youngest drivers.

"I started racing at the ripe age of four," said Harrison Burton, 21-time NASCAR race winner Jeff Burton's son. He is just 15-years-old and trying to make a name through the K&N series.

"What this series is about is really grooming the crop of racers coming up," Burton said. Like the other young drivers, he'll be adjusting to a twisting and turning road course instead of the usual oval.

One of the great things about Millville is you see a lot of perspectives of a race, whether it's a top speed straight away, or you can watch drivers maneuver a hair pin turn up close. It's a more intimate fan experience than in big NASCAR stadiums.

"That's why I like this. You can come. I walked right into the garage. I took pictures," said NASCAR fan John Salerno. "Everybody was real friendly. Nobody chased me away."

More than 14,000 people are expected to attend the race on Saturday. Tickets are $15 online, or $20 at the gate to watch NASCAR history in South Jersey.
