Mural Arts Program Bounces New Ideas Off The Wall

PHILADELPHIA, PA (CBS) -- Philadelphia's Mural Arts program may soon be expanding its scope for a new project.

Jane Golden is the executive director of the Mural Arts, she says a high school student who loves to play wall ball reached out to her to help fix a dilemma... there are not enough walls in Philadelphia for her and her friends to play wall ball.

"We were contacted by Ruby Johnson," she said. "She volunteered at wall ball, so she liked that title, it is catchy; and she has this great idea to not just paint murals on walls for wall ball, but to literally build some walls, because there are just not enough facilities!"

Golden points to partnering with their guild program. This program is for people returning from prison, learning building skills. She also hopes to partner with the city's parks and recreation centers, hoping that they can feasibly add several more wall ball walls in Philadelphia. How many?

"I always like to think big, but I would love to say over the next two years we could probably work at 10 to a dozen different centers."
