Multiple People Sickened After Gas Leak In Oxford Circle

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Crews responded to a gas leak in the Oxford Circle section of Philadelphia on Wednesday morning.

Around 9:42 a.m., firefighters were called to the 6400 block of Castor Avenue for reports of fumes.

Upon arrival, firefighters found several people upstairs inside a building. One victim was taken to St. Christopher's Hospital for Children and four others, including a teen, were taken to another area facility in stable condition.

"I saw them bring two babies out," says Jerome Roberson. "The mother came out, they laid her on the ground...they put the oxygen tank on her."

The Philadelphia Fire Department says the cause of the fumes appears to have been a generator that was running inside the apartment, causing heightened levels of carbon monoxide.

The situation is reportedly under control.
