Multi-Vehicle Accident Shuts Down Major NJ Highway For Hours

By Jan Carabeo

PENNSAUKEN, N.J. (CBS) – A crash involving six vehicles closed the Northbound lanes of Route 130 in Pennsauken, Camden County for several hours Saturday night.

This happened around 7 p.m. at US 130 and Westfield Avenue.

Parts of the half-dozen cars were strewn in the street and at least one car flipped on its side.

"It was completely chaotic, there was a man trapped in a car," eyewitness Joe Preto tells CBS3 Eyewitness News.

Preto, along with other witnesses, rushed to help.

"People were ejected out the vehicle," he says, "laying on the highway on Route 130. There were a few pregnant women involved."

Several people were taken to the hospital following the accident. Luis Morales, who was involved, was not one of them:

"I was the first one to get hit. I don't know how I'm not injured or anything," he said.

Morales says he was sitting in his now-mangled car at a red light when he saw another vehicle rushing toward him in his rearview mirror.

"I saw a speeding stampede behind me, and hit the car, and then I was spinning."

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, but witnesses say they saw cars speeding moments before it happened on Route 130.

"We heard there were three cars street racing," says Preto.

Pennsauken Police haven't released too much more information at this time and they aren't commenting any further about the injuries or the cause.

Everything is now reopen. An investigation is ongoing.
