Movie Theaters Announce 'Star Wars' Costume Guidelines

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Are you going to see the new Star Wars movie in December?

If you are planning on wearing a costume, be sure to check with your local movie theater first.

AMC Theatres has the following costume policy posted on their website:

"AMC does not permit weapons or items that would make other guests feel uncomfortable or detract from the movie-going experience. Guests are welcome to come dressed in costume, but we do not permit masks or face paint," the statement reads, in part.

An AMC spokesperson says its their policy all the time and for every movie, and has been for a number of years, without any significant negative feedback from guests.

CBSPhilly has also reached out to Regal Theaters and Cinemark about their costume policy and is awaiting a response.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens in theaters on Dec. 18.
