Movement Underway To Allow Undocumented Immigrants To Drive In Pa.

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Ten states and Washington DC currently allow undocumented immigrants to get driver's licenses. Now, advocates in Pennsylvania are working for the same thing.
Immigrants, clergy and others want Republican State Representative John Taylor of Port Richmond to support the bill.
Blanca Pacheco of the New Sanctuary Movement of Philadelphia says getting licenses into the hands of immigrants is key to their livelihood:
"So many immigrants are entrepreneurs and have built business, and they use their cars to transport their materials for the business."
Pacheco says it's important for other reasons impacting their daily lives as well:
"To transport their families, to go to church, to go to the doctor and all of the general needs that regular people have."
"It will help also the government," adds Pastor Aldo Sianan of the Philadelphia Praise Center. "They will buy cars, they will pay insurance."
But Taylor says this is not going to happen. He says President Obama's executive order creating a pathway to citizenship is being challenged.
Until that is resolved, there will be no licenses for those immigrants in Pennsylvania.
