Mother And Son Locked Up For Allegedly Renting Homes That Didn't Belong To Them

By Mike Dougherty

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A mother and her son are in jail, accused of selling and renting houses in Burlington, Camden and Gloucester Counties that didn't belong to them.

So far, more than 20 victims have come forward.

Andy McNeil with the Camden County Prosecutor's Office says Lisa Smith and her son Kristian Edmonds were posing as real estate agents, showing homes, and accepting checks for tens of thousands of dollars.

"The defendants accessed foreclosed properties by unlawfully using keys from real estate lock boxes or having the properties re-keyed."

Smith's real estate license was revoked in 2010

"The suspects were conducting these transactions under the name of Sterling Realty Investments and REQ Realtors."

There may be other victims out there. Authorities ask anyone who believes they were a victim to call the Camden County Prosecutor's Office.
