Mother, 5-month-old baby shot in West Philadelphia, police say

A mother and her 5-month-old baby girl are in the hospital after being shot in West Philadelphia, family said.

The shooting happened just after 4 a.m. Sunday on the 1500 block of North Robinson Street.

Philadelphia Police said the woman was shot multiple times and the baby was shot once in the leg. Both were taken to area hospitals.

Speaking with CBS News Philadelphia outside the home where the shooting happened, Amaryiah Mathis, the woman's sister, said both the mom and child are expected to be OK. Mathis said the mother had surgery earlier in the morning, and that the baby also needed surgery.

Police have not identified a shooter or any suspects in connection with the shooting, and said their investigation is ongoing.
