More Than $3 Million Worth Of Heroin Seized In Narcotics Sweep In Cape May County

CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE, N.J. (CBS) -- A two month, large scale Cape May County narcotics investigation resulted in the seizure of $3.6 milllion worth of heroin and 12 people charged.

Carlos Guzman and Hector Ramos were charged with Leader of a Narcotics Trafficking Network and Conspiracy to Distribute a Controlled Dangerous Substance.

Ten others were charged with related offenses in connection to the drug network.

Authorities say so far, the equivalent of 182,000 bags of heroin with a street value of in excess of $3.6 million were confiscated. Also, a handgun and approximately $200,000 were also seized, along with an additional 7,700 bags of heroin with a street value in excess of $150,000.

Guzman and Ramos face a mandatory penalty, if convicted, of life imprisonment.
