More Than 1 Million Smoke Alarms Recalled

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Walter Kidde Portable Equipment Inc. is recalling more than one million hard-wired smoke and combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarms because they could fail following a power outage, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said Thursday.

About 1.2 million alarms in the United States and about 112,000 in Canada have been recalled by the Mebane, North Carolina company, the commission's website reads.

This recall involves three models of smoke and of combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarms that are hard-wired into a home's electric power, it said.

The alarms were sold at CED, City Electric Supply, HD Supply, Home Depot, Menards Inc. and other retailers, electrical distributors and online at Amazon.com, HomeDepot.com and shopkidde.com from January through July for between $30 and $50.

No incident or injuries have been reported.
