More Sex Abuse Charges Filed Against Bucks Psychiatrist

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. (CBS) -- Prosecutors in Bucks County have filed additional charges against a Doylestown psychiatrist already accused of molesting three young women who came to his office for help.

After news of Dr. Basem Shlewiet's arrest went public last month (see previous story), authorities say five more women came forward to say the 42-year-old Buckingham, Pa. man indecently assaulted them during their office visits.

Now, Shlewiet is facing ten additional counts of indecent assault, along with corruption of minors and related charges.

Prosecutor Lindsay Vaughan says the alleged victims range in age from 14 to 33.

"The most disturbing thing about this case is that these young women went to Dr. Shlewiet for help, and during the period of their treatment he abused them and took advantage of them," she notes.

Shlewiet is currently not practicing and has had his license suspended pending the outcome of the criminal case.  He had been released on bail after he was arrested on the initial charges.

Vaughan again is asking that anyone else who believes they were subjected to inappropriate contact with him to call police.
