Montgomery County Loan Helping Popular Flourtown Farmers' Market Relocate

By Jim Melwert

FLOURTOWN, Pa. (CBS) -- The Flourtown Farmers Market now has a new home, thanks in part to a low-interest loan from Montgomery County.

The market will now be located on the lower level of the old Springfield Inn, at 1800 Bethlehem Pike.

The final piece to help the 14 vendors find a new home came from the Montgomery County Development Corporation's opportunity loan program.

"This particular loan came in as a result of the Flourtown Farmers Market being notified that they had six months in their existing lease, and they had to find a new space, essentially," recalls Montgomery County commerce director Carolina DiGiorgio.

She says loan applicants need to be a good fit for the program, promoting economic development.

"A lot of what we do is to really fill in those last dollars or any gaps that exist in a project, where that project and that purpose really are in line with community efforts," she tells KYW Newsradio.

The $250,000 loan is just a small part of the total renovation project.  DiGiorgio says it will be used to buy equipment on behalf of the vendors for their move.
