Montgomery County Family Struggles To Contact Loved Ones In Nepal

By Kristen Johanson

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A local family is desperately trying to reach the rest of their loved ones in Nepal after a 7.8 earthquake rocked the country, demolished buildings, and took their house there along with it.

The Moktan family has owned the Persian Grill in Layfatte Hill for 13 years.

Bimal Moktan's keeps busy serving patrons, knowing he needs as much business as he can muster to help rebuild his family's life, and his house, thousands of miles away.

"From the backside of the house is a 50-story building collapsed...come over my house. So sad."

His niece Barsha scrolls through Facebook to see if there is any word from the rest of her family in Nepal.

"Facebook has activated this 'I'm safe' button," said Barsha, "so we all know that they're doing fine."

And as they wait for contact, Bimal stands firmly knowing what the family must do to go forward.

"We're going to need help." said Bimal, "We're going to find out how they're doing. We're going to ask everyone to help."
