Montgomery County Cub Scout Pack Receives Donation From Local Business

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa., (CBS) -- Cub Scout Pack 27 in Collegeville, Montgomery County was all smiles after a big donation from a local business saved their year.

"Awesome," said a cub scout.

"We got the money back," said another.

Money the boys had raised themselves was allegedly stolen earlier this year, nearly disbanding the pack of first through fifth graders. Former committee chair Heather Belford allegedly stole more than $3,000, wiping out all of their funds. But after hearing the boys' story, there was a silver lining.

Eagle Scout and local business owner Josh Skolnick, founder of Monster Tree Service, donated back all of the missing money.

"The first thing that ran through my mind was what was going to be taken away from these young men, camping trips, different events that they do, Pinewood Derby events. I just didn't want to see anybody be able to miss out on that," said Josh Skolnick.

He presented the boys with a check for more than $2,500 Wednesday at their weekly meeting at Oaks Elementary.

"I felt really happy," said a cub scout.

And with the donation, shirts with the Monster Tree mascot Chip.

"I really like it and it's my favorite color," said a cub scout.

But for the parents there's a much bigger lesson here.

"It was terrible that it happened but now we get to teach them a different lesson," said Pack Leader Jim Callahan.

"It's just been a great experience for all of us to know that someone is kind enough to do this for our pack," said a parent.

While Belford is still being prosecuted, accused of stealing the pack's funds, they say they are now ready to put this behind them and move on with the scouting year.
