Montco Women's Center To Hold Fundraiser For Domestic Violence Programs

BLUE BELL, Pa. (CBS) --- Amid all the controversy surrounding incidents of domestic violence in the NFL, a Montgomery County organization dedicated to ending abuse will raise money this weekend to help fund their programs.

The Women's Center of Montgomery County will hold their 10th annual 5k run and 3k walk on Sunday. With a goal of raising $30,000, organizers say the money will be used for prevention, programs they say that are not typically funded by government money.

Executive Director Maria Macaluso says the Ray Rice incident has raised awareness, but they're also seeing something different than what they would expect.

"Actually some negativity around the fact that well I don't have a video, how is anybody going to believe me? So the victims are more frustrated by the public's reaction to the fact that suddenly there's a video, now we know she was really abused," she said.

The organization serves over 4,500 victims each year. The event will be held at Montgomery County Community College in Blue Bell.
