Montco Power Plant To Host Community Open House

By Brad Segall

POTTSTOWN, Pa. (CBS) - If you've ever wanted to see the inner workings of a nuclear power plant, you have a chance this evening in Montgomery County.

Exelon has applied to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission for license renewals to keep running its two reactors at the Limerick plant through 2044 and 2049.

From 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. today, the power plant will hold its annual community information program and open house.

Employees will be there to answer questions about how the plant works, what safety procedures are in place and how the plant affects the surrounding environment. The main control room will also be open.

Exelon says the generating station provides electricity to about two million homes and businesses and those two ominous looking gray towers help cool the plant.

In past years, several hundred people have turned out.
