PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Sports Illustrated took over part of Lincoln Financial Field in South Philadelphia Monday to celebrate Mo'ne Davis as Sports Kid of the Year.

Mo'ne Davis wowed the sports world this summer with her performance as the winning pitcher in the Little League World Series. Now, at 13-years-old, she's playing varsity basketball at Springside Chestnut Hill Academy. Plus, she was feted at the Linc by Sports Illustrated, and 150 friends and teammates.

"I like this event today because all my friends could be here and it's not just adults, it's like all the kids and you can just have fun," said Mo'ne Davis.

Mark Bechtel, SI Kids Managing Editor, explains why Mo'ne won the Sports Kid of the Year Award.

"It wasn't just what she did. it was how she handled herself. It was how she handled herself, she was just so graceful and had such poise. It's really incredible to see that in a kid her age," said Mark Bechtel.
