Mom Who Rolled Onto Baby While High Pleads Guilty In Child's Death

MAYSLANDING, N.J. (CBS)—A Ventnor mother has pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter after authorities say she rolled onto her baby while under the influence of narcotics, ultimately causing fatal injury.

The State alleges that Lisa M. Scalia, 32, is to blame for the death of her 7-month-old daughter.

Police responded when the baby was unresponsive inside a home in the 5700 block of Monmouth Avenue, in Ventnor on January 3, 2016.

The child died 5 days later at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children in Philadelphia.

Scalia was arrested on charges of endangering the welfare of a child, four counts of possession of controlled dangerous substances: suboxone, oxycodone, heroin, and Lyrica.

She was later charged with aggravated manslaughter, which she pleaded guilty to on Thursday.
