Mom Charged In Connection To 4-Year-Old N. Phila Girl's Death

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Sources have told CBS 3 that the mother of a 4-year-old girl who died in North Philadelphia, after being shot in the face, has been charged in connection to the little girl's death after the girl accidentally shot herself in the face.

Sources say that her mother, Shakeya Holmes, has been charged with third-degree involuntary manslaughter, recklessly endangering the welfare of another person, and recklessly endangering the welfare of a child.

Sources add that the mother's boyfriend will also be charged for weapons offenses including recklessly endangering the welfare of another person and recklessly endangering the welfare of a child.

CBS 3 has learned that he has had a warrant out for his arrest since 2013 in connection to weapons charges. He is not yet in custody.

Sources say that the gun that was used in the incident was stolen.

CBS 3 has learned that the mother originally took the girl outside, after the incident and placed her on the porch, telling police that she fell from the window, before then saying that a stray bullet came from outside and struck the girl.

A vigil was held for the little girl earlier in the day, on Friday.
