Mixed Feelings About Obama's Decision To Restore Ties With Cuba

By Justin Udo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The United States and Cuba have resumed diplomatic relations, but people have mixed feelings about President Obama's decision to open a new chapter with the communist country.

Reverend Bonnie Camarda, who was born in Havana, says she's happy about this new diplomatic development, but some of her friends feel the United States should not support a country that has forced hardship on so many of its citizens:

"I'm elated but at the same time I feel the pain of those who are not as happy as I am."

Carmada says she hopes she will now be able to better help and support her family and friends in Cuba:

"I'm excited because I can go and visit the country with a little bit more freedom."

Carmarda says hopefully this is the first step to ending the U.S embargo with Cuba that's been in place since the 1960's.
