Missing Newark Boy Found By K-9 Team

NEWARK, Del., (CBS) --  A K-9 team was able to locate a missing child Wednesday morning in Newark, New Castle County.

Officer Corey Best and canine "Diesel" responded to Korda Drive after a nine-year-old boy disappeared.

Despite below freezing temperatures and snow, Diesel picked up the scent and followed it straight to the boy.

"The nine year-old said that he was afraid he was going to get in trouble at school that day so he thought he was going to go survive in the woods for however long. Obviously a nine year-old shouldn't be out on their own, especially with the weather we were having, so it's good that Diesel found him in a timely manner," Officer Best said.

The child was uninjured and happily reunited with his mother.

Officer Best and Diesel having been working together for the past two and a half years.
