Missing Maryland College Student From Area Found Dead

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Police say the Maryland college student from Cheltenham -- who his family reported missing and possibly armed earlier in the week-- has been found dead.

Police in the Philadelphia and Maryland areas were looking for 19-year-old Washington College student Jacob Marberger after his family reported him missing on Monday. The family said he came home in the middle of the night and took a rifle case, which may or may not have had the gun inside.

Marberger's body was found in a picnic area Saturday at the Hawk Mountain Sanctuary in Berks County. Pennsylvania State Police say he died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The car he was believed to be driving was also located at the sanctuary.

Police say Marberger made no threats to harm anyone in Pennsylvania or Maryland, but Cheltenham High School -- where he attended -- was on lockdown Monday and classes at Washington College were canceled all week.

College officials say counseling services will be available when students return to campus.
