Coast Guard Suspends Search For Missing Atlantic City Swimmer

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (CBS) -- The U.S. Coast Guard has suspended the search for a swimmer who went missing in Atlantic City on Tuesday night.

The Coast Guard began its search when they were notified by the Atlantic City Police Department at about 10 p.m. Tuesday, after a bystander saw a man enter the water by the Steel Pier and not return.

St. Hubert Class Ring Found In New Jersey 

Coast Guard crews searched throughout Tuesday night and all day Wednesday but have been unable to locate the swimmer.

"We extend our deepest condolences to the families and loved ones affected by this tragedy," said Capt. Scott Anderson, Commander, Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay. "As first responders, it's always a difficult decision to suspend a search."
