Millions To Take Part In National Crime Prevention Effort Started By Local Man

WYNNEWOOD, Pa. (CBS) - Crime prevention efforts will take place in neighborhoods all over the country on Tuesday.
It's called "National Night Out" and it was started 31 years ago by Matt Peskin of Wynnewood, Montgomery County.
He says the idea is to get people out to meet their neighbors and law enforcement by holding pot luck dinners, parades or just hanging out:
"You know, 99-percent of us are law-abiding, so when you have the majority comes out in force like that, it shows criminals that, you know, people are fed up and that they are going to look for suspicious activity, they are going to call police and it really helps to demonstrate that strong police/community partnership that is out there."
Thirty-seven million people are expected to take part in "National Night Out." Participants are being asked to register for organization kits and guidelines.
