Methacton School District Teachers On Strike As Classes Canceled Monday
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Pa. (CBS) -- Five thousand students in a Montgomery County School District won't be going to class Monday following an emergency bargaining session that ended without a deal Sunday night.
The Methacton School District has been trying to work out a new contract with its teachers' union, the Methacton Education Association, since January.

An 8 p.m. Sunday deadline passed with no deal and a pending strike.
"Because MEA is striking, Monday's classes will be canceled within the Methacton School District and all aspects of the district's strike plan will commence," said Methacton School Board President Chris Boardman.

Strike threats started recently after union officials say they weren't pleased the district got the state's labor relations board involved in the negotiations.
The union feels that the over 400 teachers they represent are getting below average pay.
