Message In Bottle Sent From Jersey Shore Found Two Years Later In France

TOMS RIVER, N.J. (CBS) -- It's an incredible journey two years in the making.

A bottle tossed into the sea by a couple in New Jersey washed up more than 3,000 miles away in France.

Tommy Zanowic and Bridget Braaten through the bottle into the ocean two years ago from Island Beach State Park in Toms River, never imagining it would make it that far. They wrote a college dorm address on a note that simply read, "Write to us about your good fortunes."

The pair never gave the message another thought until last week when someone at Loyola University in Maryland contacted them saying that the bottle was found across the Atlantic Ocean in Ile Tariec, France.

"We just thought that someone would find it and say 'you left your bottle here,'" said Braaten.

Instead, the bottle bobbed floated 3,376 miles across the ocean where it was discovered by a man walking on the beach, covered in seaweed and sand.

I can't believe that it went all the way to France," Zanowic said. "It doesn't make any sense."

The couple who sent the message in the bottle and the man who received it have been communicating on social media and said they hope to meet in person one day soon.
