Man Spotted Atop Phila. Hotel Charged

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Two people were taken into custody after being spotted on the roof of a Center City Hotel with smoke bomb and camera equipment.

The man, 28-year-old Ivan Wong of Edison, N.J. was charged with Criminal Mischief and Defiant Trespass. The woman who was with him was not charged.

The pair were spotted on the rooftop of the Hyatt at the Bellevue on South Broad Street around 7:30 p.m. Monday. Police took them in for questioning, and Commissioner Richard Ross tells CBS 3 Eyewitness News it appears they were just trying to take photos and the gas was for added effect.

"This individual may be a blogger that just likes to do things with photography that's a little bizarre. We haven't ruled out anything, you never do, but it just appears that this is what this individual does."

Homeland Security also took part in the investigation and questioning.
