Back From Injury, Meghan Creighton Making Things Go For Drexel

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A familiar face is back at the point for the Drexel University women's basketball team this season and that is very good news for everyone involved.

Redshirt junior Meghan Creighton played in just seven games last season for the Dragons before being sidelined by a torn meniscus in her knee. But she's back healthy and doing what she does best, running the show on the floor.

"I'm back 100-percent," Creighton told KYW Newsradio recently. "Last year I went through the whole rehab process and I feel good. I don't really feel the injury anymore at all, so it's good."

Creighton is a steady hand at the point for Drexel. This season she is averaging 4.8 points and 6.0 assists a game. That assist number is good for the second in the Colonial Athletic Association. And after dishing out seven assists in Monday's win over Quinnipiac, Creighton is now tied for 8th in Drexel history in assists with 313. Her assist-to-turnover ratio of 3.15 is tops in the conference and has her ranked in the top twenty, nationally.

As you can imagine, Drexel head coach Denise Dillon is very happy to have the West Chester native and Archbishop Carroll product back in the line-up.

"As we say, Meg's like a coach on the court," Dillon tells KYW Newsradio. "She understands what we're calling on the offensive end, she knows the importance of the different defenses that we play and just having her understanding and experience is great to have back on the court."

While having to sit out after the injury last season was incredibly frustrating, Creighton says she made the most of her time on the sidelines.

"Injury teaches you a lot," Creighton says. "It teaches you a lot about yourself and my basketball IQ has always been the strongest part of my game, so sitting there, you just learn so much more. And having Denise Dillon as a head coach, she knows more about the game than anyone I've ever been around. I've been fortunate enough to have great high school coaches between my dad (former Carroll head coach Chuck Creighton) and (Renie) Shields, talk about people who know the game, I've been surrounded by them my whole life. But it was fun, well not fun to sit on the sidelines, but Denise Dillon made it easier for me because she's there and she's willing to help me learn and she's willing to help me see different things. So it was definitely a learning experience."

Creighton and the rest of the Drexel women's basketball team will return to the court on December 29th when they visit Syracuse.
