Mediterranean Diet May Be Weapon Against Diabetes

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A report from the Canadian Medical Association supports prior studies that a Mediterranean diet, including extra virgin olive oil and various nuts, leads to decreased obesity and blood glucose levels.

The study suggests this diet may be a weapon against diabetes.

They studied the benefits of a Mediterranean diet, including extra virgin olive oil. They compared this diet with a low-fat diet alone in over 5800 people and what they found was that even without the addition of exercise, the blood sugar was reduced especially in those who had metabolic syndrome where the blood sugar tends to be elevated. 


Certainly the Mediterranean diet is not the only answer but it is something people can strive to follow as they attempt to improve eating habits and make positive lifestyle changes.
