May's Landing Man Sentenced To 13 Years On Attempted Murder Charge

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A New Jersey man was sentenced to 13 years in prison on Friday after pleading guilty the attempted murder of his girlfriend.

Dwight I. Qawi Jr. of May's Landing admitted to punching and kicking the woman at a Glassboro, New Jersey convenience store in 2015, causing severe head injuries.

The 32-year-old Qawi, a registered sex offender, was also sentenced to a separate three-year prison term after failing to notify police of an address change. It will be served concurrently with the 13-year sentence.

Qawi will be eligible for parole after serving 85% of his sentence.
