Mays Landing Day Care Owner Uses CPR To Save Child

MAYS LANDING, N.J., (CBS) -- With a little girl in her arms turning blue a Mays Landing day care owner had one chance last week to make her CPR training count.
Melode Davis-Holland who owns the Davis Holland Learning Center says she's been CPR certified for almost 20 years but never had to put it into practice until a staff member came running into her office last Tuesday.
She was holding 1-year-old Jasleen who appeared to be suffering a seizure caused by a high fever.
Holland placed the girl on the ground to assess her while staff called 9-1-1.
"I let them know that the baby had begun turning blue, they instructed me to begin CPR," says Holland.
She administered chest compressions and rescue breaths and within a few minutes Jasleen started breathing again.
"We were all crying. I think it's safe to say that pretty much all the staff were crying at that time," says Holland.
New Jersey law requires all licensed day care facilities to have at least two staff members trained in CPR.
Holland says she has all her staff trained and it came in handy.
"We worked together as a team," says Holland who recommends every parent check when selecting a day care center to see how many people they have certified.
